Peer Review Policy

 policy

This policy describes how manuscripts submitted to the International Journal of Asia Digital Art and Design are reviewed. Ethical standards are defined in the ADADA Codes of Ethics, and deadlines are published in the Annual Schedule.

1. Review Model

All submitted manuscripts undergo double-blind peer review. The identities of the authors are withheld from the reviewers, and the identities of the reviewers are withheld from the authors. Authors must remove their names, affiliations, acknowledgments, and any other information that could reveal their identity from the manuscript, and must refer to their own earlier work in a neutral manner. All communication between authors and reviewers is handled by the ADADA Editorial Office.

2. Initial Check

Before a manuscript is sent for review, the Editorial Office confirms that:

  • the manuscript falls within the Aims and Scope of the journal.
    • it is written in English, follows the Paper Format and Paper Writing Guidelines, and is generally 6 to 10 pages long, excluding references.
      • it is original and unpublished, and is not under consideration elsewhere.
        • all authors are registered ADADA members.
          • it does not show signs of plagiarism or other misconduct, as indicated by a similarity screening.

Manuscripts that do not meet these requirements may be returned to the authors without review.

            3. Review Structure

Each manuscript is evaluated by two reviewers and one meta reviewer.

Reviewers independently assess the manuscript and submit a report and a recommendation to the meta reviewer.

The meta reviewer reads the manuscript and both reports, resolves differences between the reviewers where necessary, and recommends a decision to the Editorial Committee.

The process followed by meta reviewers is described in the ADADA Meta Reviewer Process.

            4. Evaluation Criteria

Original Article. Reviewers consider the originality and academic contribution of the work, the soundness of its theoretical, empirical, technical, or experimental approach, and the clarity with which results and their significance are presented.

Art Paper. Reviewers consider the originality of the concept, representation, methodology, or expression, the quality of the creative practice and production process, and the depth of the critical discussion that accompanies the work.

            5. Decisions and Revision

The meta reviewer recommends one of the following decisions.

Accept: The manuscript is accepted without further changes, other than minor editorial corrections.

Conditional Accept: The manuscript is acceptable once the authors have addressed the points listed in the review reports. Authors submit a revised manuscript together with a response to each comment. When necessary, the revision is checked by the meta reviewer or sent for an additional round of review.

Reject: The manuscript is not suitable for publication in the journal.

The Editorial Committee may also recommend that a manuscript be reconsidered under a different article category. Revision deadlines are given in the Annual Schedule.

            6. Final Decision

The Editorial Committee is responsible for the final decision on every manuscript and is not bound by the recommendations of the reviewers or the meta reviewer. The ADADA Editorial Office notifies the authors of the decision, together with the reviewers’ comments in anonymized form.

            7. Fairness and Confidentiality

Conflicts of interest: Authors, reviewers, meta reviewers, and editors must disclose any conflict of interest. A person with a conflict is excluded from handling or reviewing the manuscript concerned.

Confidentiality: Submitted manuscripts and review reports are confidential. They must not be shared, discussed, or used for any purpose other than the review.

Appeals: Authors who believe a decision was based on a procedural error or an unfair review may submit a written appeal to the Editorial Office. The appeal is considered by the Editorial Committee, whose decision is final.

For publication ethics, including misconduct and its consequences, see the ADADA Codes of Ethics for Authors, Editors, Reviewers, and Publishers. For schedules, see the Annual Schedule.
