Submission Guideline

How to Submit

Online submission due: 23:59 pm July 20th, 2018 (JST) July 27th, 2018 (JST) (extended). All submissions must be conducted with our online submission system. We would not accept submissions via e-mail or postal mail. Please submit a PDF proceeding written in only English.

Submission and review of papers for ADADA 2018 will be managed through an online conference paper management system called "EasyChair". You will need an EasyChair account to be able to submit your paper.

The program committee will review all submissions carefully and select papers of exceptional quality for an award from all categories. Furthermore, the authors of the selected technical papers and art papers from the conference will be invited to prepare an extended version of their paper to be considered for publishing in ADADA International Journals (ADADA Journal).

Technical Papers

Technical Papers are a conventional academic papers. The authors are requested to give their oral presentations at the conference. Any topics about digital art/design fields ranging from technical research to cultural matters can be accepted. Artistic projects are encouraged to submit as Art Papers. In any case, your presentation should mention both aesthetic aspects and technical aspects of your project. Also, a process of the project should be explained logically, and your contribution to digital art/design field must be clarified. Regardless of your topic, you must describe your project in a scholarly manner. If your research could be an interactive system, we strongly recommend you to submit your system to not only papers but also demos.

Art Papers

Art Papers are more artistically-oriented papers than Technical Papers. You can present any type of artwork, as long as digital technologies are used in it. If you produced a cutting-edge digital art such as a computer animation and an interactive art, Art Papers would be a great showcase at an oral presentation. You can share your ideas between hundreds of artists and researchers, and it may evoke a synergistic effect in the Asian digital art community. You should describe an artistic motivation, a background of your artwork, and how digital technologies are involved in your work, and so on. If your research could be an interactive system, we strongly recommend you to submit your system to not only papers but also demos.

Workshop

ADADA with 101 Guide to Interaction Design Education for the Next Decade
– The Asian chapter -

IxDA, the international professional association for Interaction design and Cumulus International Association for Art, Design & Media education are joining forces for a series of shared workshops and more about the future of interaction design education.

The Goal

It’s 2018 and it’s getting complicated. Software is eating the world, digital culture is everywhere in our hands as a darker side of digital tech is emerging as a public issue. Every business sector, every part of the society is impacted and so is design education. New challenges are ahead of us with Artificial Intelligence & robotics, and it’s probably time to redefine what should be interaction design education for the next decade.

The Game

IxDA and Cumulus organised two workshops in France during the 1st part of the year 2018 in order to enable design practitioners and design educators to share views and opinions. Vision, best practices and ambition for design education were the content and the outcomes of those two workshops.

The Workshop

Introductory presentations are held to guide to the topic. Participants are challenged with one or more burning question(s) on issue for discussion. Any outcomes are squeezed out and participants are welcomed to develop this with Cumulus&IxDA also in the future. The chairs also welcome the participants to contact them before the conference on a topic of interest in relation to the theme the session.

The Chairs

Cumulus:

Grégoire Cliquet, READi Design Lab (Experimental & Applied Researches in interaction Design) L´École de Design Nantes France

IxDA:

tbc

Expected output:

A publication with a series of guidelines out under the umbrella of IxDA & Cumulus by May 2019.

This workshop @ADADA Nov 2018 is the continuation of the process started in France.
We would like very much to get an Asian input on the subject ! Welcome!

The conference will be held in National Cheng-Kung University in Tainan, Taiwan, and takes place in a historical building, Dacheng-Guan (大成館), which is now the department of Industrial Design of the University. National Cheng-Kung University is located directly next to Tainan Train Station. Leave the train station from its rear exit and walk along the Daxue Road West Section direct in front of you. Within 300 m you will meet the entrance of Kuang-Fu Campus of the university on your left-hand side.

Walk into Kuang-Fu Campus and follow the map bellow, Dacheng-Guan and department of Industrial Design of National Cheng-Kung University in front of a large green area with several old Chinese Banyan trees will be in your sight.

We will enjoy our time during the conference in this historical building. You can see the floor plan below to find the rooms for the corresponding sections of the conference.

For international guests: Travelling from airport to National Cheng-Kung University with train is easy. Please follow our tips below. Your fist goal is Tainan Railway Station. Note that Taiwan High Speed Rail System (THSR) and Taiwan Railway Administration system (TRA) are different train systems in Taiwan.

A. Arrival at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport (TPE):

Take U-bus 705 to Tauyuan High Speed Rail Station. Then take the THSR train to Tainan (travel duration ca. 90 min. ticket for standard class costs ca. NT. 1190). In Tainan High Speed Rail Station you have direct connection to TRA Shalun Railway Station. The platforms of THSR and TRA there are both at the second floor. When leaving the ticket gates of THSR, don’t do down to the first floor but turn left. Follow the sign showing “TRA” and you can get Shalun Railway Station. At Shalun Railway Station every train goes to Tainan Train Station (ticket costs NT. 25).

B. Arrival at Kaohsiung International Airport (KHH):

In this airport you have the direct connection to the Kaohsiung Metro system. Take the tram (red line) to Kaohsiung Main Station. In Kaohsiung Main Station take the train of TRA to Tainan Train Station.

C. Arrival at Taipei Songshan Airport (TSA):

Use Taipei Metro system and take BR-line (brown) to Zhongxiao-Fuxing Station. There transfer to BL-line (blue) to Taipei Main Station. From Taipei Main Station take the train of TRA to Tainan Train Station.
